Understanding Life, One System at a Time

The Department of Physiology at Viswabharathi Medical College is dedicated to the science of life and the normal functions of the human body. We provide a strong foundation for medical students through comprehensive and integrated teaching methods that span from the molecular to systemic levels.

Vision

To be recognized as a center of excellence in physiology education, research, and innovation, building a strong scientific base for future healthcare professionals.

Mission

  • To impart foundational knowledge in human physiology to undergraduate students of medical, nursing, and allied health sciences.
  • To integrate traditional teaching with modern technology and pedagogies like vertical and horizontal integration, case-based and problem-based learning.
  • To foster scientific inquiry and promote research at undergraduate and departmental levels.
  • To prepare students for clinical problem-solving by understanding the physiological basis of health and disease.
  • To maintain academic integrity, excellence, and innovation in teaching and laboratory practice.

About the Department

Established in 2014, the Department of Physiology at Viswabharathi Medical College is one of the core basic science departments. The department plays a key role in the first year of MBBS education, covering all aspects of systemic physiology through lectures, small group teaching, laboratory exercises, and simulation models. The faculty use a combination of conventional and innovative teaching strategies to promote active student participation and applied learning. The department also encourages students to participate in research and interdepartmental academic integration.
